Working to make sure consumers prefer our food
At Birds Eye, creating great tasting products that meet everyday consumer needs for a balanced diet is at the heart of everything we do. Having loyal and satisfied families who buy our products regularly is fundamental to our success as a business. This success breeds further success for our business partners, suppliers and company colleagues. It is this basic principle that underpins how Sustainable Development is achieved and enables us to have a positive impact on the local communities in which we operate or have an impact on enabling us to meet our Forever Food Values and hence travel on our Forever Food Journey.
If you're planning balanced meals for your family, you know they should contain carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and fibre in the right proportions. But the chances are you're not a professional nutritionist - so the perfect menu isn't always that easy to achieve.
That's where we come in. We're always reviewing our recipes that make up our foods - making sure that what we produce is nutritious and adds a positive contribution to a balanced diet.
To do this, we have a company nutritionist who sets the standards for the nutrient levels in our products. Things like how much salt is too much; what the acceptable saturated fat levels are, and what constitutes a recommended portion size. We also take our nutritionist's advice on how to label our foods helpfully showing the nutritional content of our foods per portion as a percentage of the Guideline Daily Amounts.
And when it comes to frozen foods, we know you may be concerned about the levels of vitamins and nutrients - but you needn't worry.
Independent research shows that our frozen green beans have more vitamin C in them than 'fresh' green beans that have been stored for just one day. That's because our Field Fresh vegetables are guaranteed to be frozen within hours of harvest - locking in those all-important nutrients and vitamins, specifically for your benefit.
You asked us:
-
What does Sustainable Development Mean to Birds Eye?
-
Sustainable development is most commonly defined as meeting the needs of the present without jeopardizing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. That's why we're calling our programme 'Forever Food', we're making sure that the way we produce food for consumers today will allow our children and children's children to harvest the Earth's food resources as well.
